Nomtastic: Crème Brûlée

Vanilla has always been my favorite flavor, but I've always felt like it got a bad rap for being plain and boring. Maybe it's because vanilla is used to describe boring sex, but let me tell you, vanilla is anything but boring. It's smooth, alluring, almost smoky and quite sexy.

Vegan Nibbles: Summery Salsa

Some of you must be lucky enough to have gardens overflowing with tomatoes right now. If you do, I am jealous. If you don't, pick up some beautiful tomatoes from your local farmers' market (like I did!) and make this tangy, slightly spicy salsa. Then sit back and enjoy these last throes of summer.

Nomtastic: Extra Buttery Snickerdoodles

In order to cheer up a loved one who wasn't feeling well, I decided to bake some cookies, event hough cookies and I haven't always exactly been friends. I've created hockey pucks and wafer thin disappointments in the past, and even the Joy of Cooking couldn't help me. Usually when I have a craving for cookies I find myself at the grocery store purchasing refrigerated cookie dough. But these cookies were 'get well' cookies! I needed to break out the big guns, so I again turned ...

Vegan Nibbles: Chocolate Chip Blondies

Blondies are my favorite. In my opinion they are majorly underrepresented. Everyone goes crazy for their cousin the brownie, but I think blondies are where it's at. Blondies are rich, vanilla scented pieces of heaven that happen to share a name with my favorite band. What do brownies have going for them? Ugly uni...

Summer Treats: Refreshing Orangina Cocktails

The last few days in London have been uncharacteristically hot, and no doubt the rest of the world that actually have normal summers are enjoying the sun's heat. However, if you tend to wither like a flower in heat. you're no doubt in need of a refreshing beverage. One of my favourite drinks to enjoy when it's hot (or when I'm in Paris) is Orangina. A fizzy, fruity drink that's light and sweet without being sickly, Orangina always hits the spot.

Nomtastic: Mom's Sweet & Sour Meatballs

My Mom has taught me many recipes; this is one of my favorites. My husband swears my sweet and sour meatballs are the number one reason he married me. Ok, that isn’t entirely true, but he begs me to makes these all the time. Lucky for me, they are easy and delicious. Even if you don’t like meatballs, this sauce is a dead ringer for Chinese sweet & sour sauce. The only thing the sauce is missing is the scary orange color.

Welcome to the Home of Metal

Certain places become synonymous with a certain type of music. Detroit is Motown, Nashville is country music, Liverpool is Mersey Beat and Manchester is Madchester. Here’s a pair that you might not be quite so quick to put together: Birmingham and Black Country, UK is the home of heavy metal. Or at least it is according to a massive season of exhibitions and events that are taking place this summer.

Nomtastic: Homemade Honey Wheat Bread

Nothing seems to warm the home as much as a loaf of fresh baked bread. On top of warming your home and impressing loved ones, it can also save you money.Awhile back I quit my job in a moment of standing up for myself and what is right. Shortly after I got off my high horse, I realized that I had now put myself in a position of having considerably less cash flow. The first trip to the grocery store after quitting was an eye opener. My bread of choice was no longer on sale and I wasn’t a...

Vegan Nibbles: Banana Berry Sorbet

Bananas are incredible. They're durable. In my life, I've squished approximately one million peaches at the bottom of my bag on the way to school, but my bananas always made it out unscathed.  They perform baking magic. Not only do they act just like eggs in cake batter by binding everything together, they also make the final result perfectly moist.

The Beauty Secrets Hidden in Your Kitchen

For years cosmetic companies have claimed to have found the secret to eternal youth, bouncy hair and skin so smooth it gleams – but after splashing out on branded lotions and watching clearly botoxed celebrities champion anti-aging products - I for one am now reluctant to believe such hyperbole.  Many of the ingredients listed in these so-called ‘wonder products’ are basic items that can be found in supermarkets or, come to think of it, a household fridge. So why pay a fortune for a pr...
