We already know that I'm not exactly a fan of irritating home decor. You know what I'm talking about, things like "fun" ice, "fun" floral kitchen gloves and "hilarious" kitchen tiles that say things like, "A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand".
However, after a recent trip to Target's Home section, I've re-discovered a new pet peeve in home decorating I have: Inspirational messages and words.
Whether they're in vinyl stickers to place above your bed or stitched on pillows, do you really think someone who comes over to your house is going to be moved to pieces by that framed stitch work you have over your entry way? NO.
Sometimes things like this can look nice. Sometimes a well-placed, inspirational message can be nice. Most times, they're irritating, stupid, and so 2002.
Here are the top six most irritating inspirational bits of decor you can have in your home:
Firstly, I won't listen to anyone who thinks we'll be inspired from a hideous leopard print wall decoration. Secondly, what if I dance better if I know I have an audience? What then, huh?
Do you see what they did there? Loads of fun? Like loads of laundry? Tee hee.
Would it not have made more sense to have it going up the stairs so that it read "reach...for...the...stars" whilst you were climbing the stairs, instead of "stars the for reach"?
OK, in case you can't read the whole quote on the image above, allow me:
"Use what talents you possess, the world would be very silent if no birds sang except those who sang best."
I'm not even sure I understand what that means.
These are inspirational words made out of wire and beads. WIRE AND BEADS. I think that says it all.
Again, if you can't read this magnificent quote, please allow me:
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's learning to dance in the rain."
Excuse me while I barf everywhere. What is with all of these quotes encouraging us to dance? What about eating? Drinking? I'd rather eat like no one is watching than dance like no one is watching...
