Great Gifts for Foodies

The biggest dilemma I face when buying a foodie friend a gift is:  do I buy something for them to cook with, or something for them to eat? If I’m adding a piece to my friend’s kitchen, then I try to pick a tool that she probably wouldn’t buy for herself – something both useful and a bit ambitious. Two tools that any foodie could use to take their cooking to the next level are a

Nomtastic: Hot Buttered Rum

My first taste of buttered rum was from a roll of Lifesavers in my Christmas stocking as a little girl. Last week during the gingerbread house candy acquisition I bought a box of story book lifesavers; the very same story book that came in my Christmas stocking as child. However, as an adult it only contains 6 rolls of lifesavers instead of 8 and the flavor they eliminated to cut corners costs is my be...

Winter Cosies for the Home

To me, winter has always meant hibernation. Spring and summer is the time to be social - festivals, picnics in the park, barbeques every weekend. Frolicking without a care in the world. As soon as the temperatures drop below zero, I tend to retreat into my flat and don’t really want to come out until March.

Vegan Nibbles: Slightly Virtuous Guacamole

I am a reasonable human being. I know the holidays can lead to overindulgence. But I'm not one of those lame-os out there telling you to "take it easy at the holiday party" and "really think about how many cookies you're eating." No sir, I will not ask you to think how many cookies you're eating. I will however tell you to make this lower fat guacamole so that you can eat even MORE cookies if you so choose.

Nomtastic: Homemade Gingerbread House

One of my earliest memories of Christmas is the majestic gingerbead house that my aunt always made. There it was; proudly in the center of the table, a fantastic mixture of cookie house and candy decor. As a three-year old there was nothing you could do to keep me away from that holiday creation. The whole day my brother and I would stealthily return to the dinning room, using our ninja skills to snatch the candy decorations. All the while our aunt watched us with her hawk eyes to minimze the...

Nomtastic: White Cheddar Cheese Ball

The holiday season is in full swing and the time for festive parties has arrived. One of the best things at festive events, other than libations, is the wonderful food that appears. The holidays bring out the creativity in everyone. The only problem with creativity is that it takes time and might leave you frazzled wondering how you’ll ever get everything together. That’s why you need a party snack that’s easy to make in advance and is ready right when you are.

Vegan Nibbles: Stovetop Popcorn

My two greatest fears are fire and getting hit by a car, which is why I avoid deep frying and the Houston/Bowery intersection.Due to my fear of becoming engulfed in flames, I've always been wary of making popcorn on the stove because I thought it involved lots of hot oil and skills. But it really doesn't! It's not that hard! You won't burn the house down!*

Philadelphia's Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake

If you love cheesecake and pumpkin pie, this recipe is for you!Pumpkin swirl cheesecake has been my go to dessert recipe for Thanksgiving for the past three years. The first year I made it everyone in my family was so hung over on Thanksgiving that no one wanted a rich dessert. Crushed that no one ate my cheesecake I took it over to a good friend’s parent’s house. There it was met with appreciation and devoured as it should have been.

Vegan Nibbles: Thanksgiving Apple Crumble

Do you know Thanksgiving is tomorrow? Do you know what you're making for dessert? Do you know how packed the grocery stores are right now? Do you know you probably have most of the ingredients for this apple crumble in your kitchen right now? Do you know that this apple crumble is really delicious?
