In April 2009, Peroni Nastro Azzurro launched their first ever Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards in collaboration with Alessi and designboom.com, and the awards will give two worthy designers the chance to chance to design pieces for the authentically Italian occasion of Aperitivo.
Aperitivo is a stylish and elaborate social occasion that takes place in the early hours of the evening that combines delicious small plates of food and refreshing alcoholic drinks. Essentially, Aperitivo is a fancy cocktail hour before every sits down for dinner. (And who doesn't love a fancy cocktail hour??)
Alberto Alessi, the head of marketing and design strategy at Alessi, describes Aperitivo as being a "an important part of Italian culture and a focus area for Alessi."
Design enthusiasts who enter the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards exclusively through designboom.com must submit a drawing, prototype or sketch that epitomizes the values of Italian design - craftsmanship, passion and attention to detail - for the occasion of Aperitivo, whether it be small furniture, kitchenware, gadgets or glassware.

For those of you who are familiar with the fantastic taste of Peroni (and their magnificently designed pint glasses) and the designs of Alessi, you'll understand why a competition that challenges the best of the best Italian designers to create something that encompasses both brands is incredibly cool.
