Nike Wants You to 'Find Your Greatness'

By Kelli Savill

With the Olympics officially kicking off today and achievement being the name of the game, it can be difficult to believe your own potential. But never fear, the mega sports brand, Nike is here to motivate us all to discover our own greatness in time for the nations’ proudest moment. As always, Nike is pushing me to rise from my sofa-nest and shout, “I am woman, hear me roar!”

Nike is launching their own spin on sporting events for the everyday person – Find Your Greatness. The sporting giants have prepared a short film that will launch in 25 different countries today, and Nike are hammering home that they innovate; as well as motivate, as we all know their famous slogan, “Just Do It”.

The #FindGreatness campaign's beautiful film shows shots from all over the world; a gym in Britain, a Rugby match in South Africa, a baseball field in Ohio. These places all have one thing in common – a name. Amazingly, they are all named London, a nod towards the Olympics without any explicit mention of them, and a beautiful symbol of unity. The narrator tells us, “There are no grand celebrations here. No speeches. No bright lights. But there are great athletes.” These places are made up only of their people, and individual achievements.

We all strive to excel, and that’s what counts. It’s important to continually grow and put your best foot first. That is what Nike wants you to do. However, their Find Your Greatness campaign is tasteful, not attempting to be over inspiring, nor aimed at those who spend their lives on a treadmill (they’d for sure be barking up the wrong tree here).

Towards the end, the film shows a young boy taking his own leap into greatness – straight off the tallest diving board. We’ve all been there, right?

Greatness is not in one special place, and it is not in one special person. Greatness is wherever someone is trying to find it."
