Whistle While You Work-Out: A Cycling Playlist

By Kelli Savill

Like many others, I exercise from the comfort of my own home. I’m a cardio girl and likes to rock the stationary bike... mostly so I can ride like a champ and throw my arms in the air when I reach my goal, mimicking the roar of the crowd.

With the 2012 Olympics in full swing, I'd say that's totally normal, right?

I tried peddling along to the television, starting with The Bachelor, and many ladies I've spoken to like to do something similar, as it would seem that the visual stimulation can distract from you from pushing through the burn whilst exercising.

Unfortunately, however, I ended up throwing water at the screen in protest. Seriously, some of the behaviour on that show is questionable. So after performing some trial and error on a range of different guilty pleasures, I came to the conclusion that listening to music seems to be the most rational to do as you work out - it's also much less likely to get your TV screen smashed in! Pump up the jam!

My music taste is somewhat questionable, but a fast beat (or a power ballad) is my going to get me to cycle my way to a smaller waistline.

Here’s my current cycling playlist:

Carly Rae Jepsen – "Call Me Maybe"

Fun. – "We are Young"

Kayne West – "Good Life"

Queen – "Don’t Stop Me Now"

Kanye, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj – "Monster"

Flo Rida – "Good Feeling"

Buckcherry – "Crazy Bitch"

Whitesnake – "Still of the Night"

Rihanna – "S&M"

Will Smith – "Getting Jiggy With It" ( I beg you to watch this video, if only to learn some new dance moves)

And if these tracks don’t whip you up into an exercising frenzy, I don’t know what will. I mean, come on, Will Smith? Nicki Minaj? It’s almost enough to make me look forward to exercise!

The best music for me to work out to is Rammstein.
You don't need to understand the words (although my German is getting better), just feel the speed and power of the music.

I would also heartly recommend unplugging the exercise bike and get out in the fresh air on the cycleways, canals and roads!

I have actually been known to blast out some Rammstein, I find not knowing the words means I can't be distracted with a singalong, and it all have a pretty fast beat!

I definitely want to buy a bike soon, and get on some proper journeys. There's only so much stationary cycling one can take before getting bored!
