Step aside, Ricky Gervais, and make way for the ever-awesome pairing of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The Saturday Night Live legends and all round funny feminist icons have been announced as the hosts of next year’s Golden Globes. They have replaced the controversial star of The Office, who was notorious for his acerbic quips that put many an A-lister nose out of joint.
2013 marks the 70th anniversary of the awards, with a glittering ceremony to be held on 13 January. Fey and Poehler are sure to bring plenty of well rehearsed wit and warmth to proceedings with the combined force of their enduring friendship and their illustrious comedy track records.
The ladies are best known for their hilarious turns on SNL as Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin. They also teamed up for the movie Mean Girls. Fey has gone on to great things with her hit show 30 Rock whilst Poehler has enjoyed success in the comedy Parks and Recreation.
Their friendship began when they were starting out on the improvised comedy scene in Chicago.
Aida Takla-O’Reilly, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association praised Fey and Poehler’s “unparalleled comedic timing”. She said: “We are thrilled to have the magnetic duo be a part of the show’s 70th anniversary”.
Often considered the support act for the Oscars headliner, the 2013 Golden Globes have just gotten a hell of a lot more interesting.
