Boden’s Autumn/Winter collection has taken me by surprise. Their clothes have always been “nice”, but they have never before managed to drive me wild with avarice.
The name had always conjured up images of conservative midi-skirts and jaunty colourful cashmere. It was one of those labels that I’d filed in a mental folder labelled “for future reference”. The "future" being the one where I have a cottage in Hampshire, two ruddy-cheeked kids, a Labrador called Bunty and an Aga. That was until their latest catalogue landed on my doormat...
Boden’s new collection is all about quintessentially British references – from London inspired prints to heritage tweeds. Some of the pieces are still relatively safe but there are some clear standout items.
The British Tweed Mini is made from fabric woven at the Abraham Moon and Sons mill in Yorkshire. It can be teamed with tan loafers, peter pan collars and cardigans for a bookish look or mixed with fitted knitwear and heels for a sharper look.
Then there’s the British Tweed Blazer. The check is far from subtle, making it a real statement piece. It would look stunning with jeans or even paired with the matching tweed skirt for a not-at-all boring spin on the skirt suit.

British Tweed Blazer, £149.00
Colour is cleverly used throughout the collection. An otherwise plain and simple blouse takes on an exciting edge when made in a zesty acid yellow. Neutral suede brogues get added interest in the form of neon laces. Don’t get me started on the rainbow of cashmere cardigans and sweaters, available in a range of shapes and lengths.

Velvet Trim Coat, £199.00
Simple and flattering tunic dresses come in cute prints, including a sweet Houses of Parliament and soldier fabric. They are ideal to effortlessly throw on over opaque tights and layered with lightweight knits.

Scoop Tunic Dress, £79.00
That’s what is so appealing about Boden’s latest offering: it is easy and stylish. It isn’t exactly bargain basement prices, but these are clothes that you’ll want to keep wearing for years to come.
To make matters even better (or worse, for my bank account), Boden have recently opened a pop-up shop in Birmingham's Bullring. They'll be stocking womenswear and Mini Boden in the store on the upper level of the mall until 24th December.
