From Cheap to Pricey: Our Favourite Mascaras

By Cate Sevilla

Mascara is the one product that is always a standard in make-up routines. While eye shadows, blushers and highlighters are usually optional, even on the most simple of make-up days, the mascara always goes on.

It's because of this that there are so many damn options for mascaras. Walking along the cosmetic aisles of Boots is like being in a Cost-co. The choice is overwhelming, the prices are ridiculous, and the claims made in mascara adverts are enough to put me off ever buying mascara ever again. (If I could be bothered, I'd happily wear falsies every day of the week.)

In an effort to take the effort out of choosing your next tube of the sticky black stuff, I've asked some of the BitchBuzz ladies what their favourite mascaras are, as well as a couple of my favourites.

Here's what they had to say...

The Cheaper Options

Everyone has the "when I have money" and "when I don't have money" make-up and beauty product options, and mascaras are a perfect example of this. When the BitchBuzz team are a little hard-up for cash, here are the options we go for...

ScandalEYES

Kelli's Pick: Rimmel's Scandal Eyes £4.99

"It gives you biiig lashes."

Jen's PickVolum' Express Maybelline The Colossal Cat Eyes, £7.99

"It has a ridiculously long name, but it make my eyelashes ridiculously long, too. I love that it has a curved brush which adds curl."

Lia's Pick:  Maybelline Falsies Flared Mascara, £7.99

"I find most of the volume mascara to be too thick and my lashes look like fly legs, this one distributes it evenly, though the brush could do with picking up slightly less product."

The Pricey Options

It's nice to pretend that we can all afford £25 - £30 mascaras all of the time, but we all know that isn't true. When we do have a bit of extra dosh, these are the mascaras we'll splash out on...

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara

Jen's Pick:  Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara, £20.50

"This is pricey but I like the tapered brush shape (good to catch those little lashes) and it does what it says on the tube."

Kelli & Cate's Pick: Benefit's BADgal Lash Mascara, £16.50

"The wand is huge and a tube of this stuff lasts for a long time. This is the best mascara I've ever used."

Hannah's Pick: Diorshow, £23.00

"I'm a fan of this after being recommended it by a friend!"

Honorable Mentions

They might not be the cheapest or for every day use, but we love these mascaras anyway...

Benefit BADgal Plum

Jen's Pick: Benefit's BADgal Plum Lash, £16.50

"I have hazel eyes and this colour makes them look sparkly and enhances the green tones. Quite subtle but effective."

Cate's Pick: No7 Extravagant Volume Mascara, £11.00

"I usually like a thicker wand, but this mascara is just awesome. Curl your lashes before and then just add a couple of coats of this and you're set. Really impressed with this, even if it is a bit more expensive than I'd like!"

I'm going to weigh in on this as I think I've just discovered my new favourite mascara...and its super cheap! I'm always on the lookout for the best mascara, I think its like my mission in makeup life. What I've found is the 17 Peep Show Mascara. It literally makes me look like I'm wearing false eyelashes. I love it and even more so as its under £7.
