Autumn and winter are seasons that were made for the dedicated clothes horse. Don’t get me wrong. Summer is grand. Who doesn’t love the sun, picnics in the park and warm weather? But winter. The opportunity to layer, wear boots of all styles, trousers, jumpers, tights, coats, dresses and scarves all layered on top of one another - try doing that when it’s 30 degrees outside. As the weather has turned from what was supposed to be a hot and sunny August to one that’s grey, rainy and a bit crap ...

Like wondering what to have for lunch, finding the time to wash my hair has plagued me more throughout my adult life more than I'd like to admit. I hate washing my hair. Hate it. And from what I've been told by hairdressers and read in overly dramatic "I went for six weeks without washing my hair!" themed columns in various magazines, not washing your hair is so in right now. And, indeed, washing it less means your hair stays healthier. Something about natural oils. Y...

As we wave goodbye to the last Bank Holiday of 2011, it’s pretty much a hop, skip and jump into Autumn/Winter. With London Fashion Week around the corner; fashion-packs from around the world will soon be descending on the capital keen discover all that’s new for summer 2012. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s barely September and even though our summer has been less than, well...summery, I’m not quite prepped for rain, sleet and snow just yet.

If forties style vermillion lips aren’t your beauty bag, you’ll be pleased to hear that there is another retro inspired beauty trend to look forward to this autumn.Sixties make up is epitomised by darkly defined eyes, spidery lashes and pale, almost blanked out, lips. Look towards pictures of Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and Penelope Tree for inspiration.

The daily discrepancies in weather don’t just play havoc with your hair this season (hello permanant frizz!), as your wardrobe takes a trans-seasonal hit of infuriating proportions. Torrential downpour at 9am, scorching sunshine at 1pm? Sounds about right for this so-called summer we’re having. A mountain of layers and tights whipped off a lunch has been the unofficial fashion trend of the summer; but beyond the summer dresses and umbrellas is the issue of footwear.

The mod 1960s look is back and thankfully it looks nothing like Liz Hurley in an Austin Powers movie. There are no white patent knee high boots and floral mini skirts that throw your modesty out the window. There is certainly no need to back comb your hair into a beehive. This season the throwback to my favourite era - the 1960s - is subtle, timeless and oh so so stylish. What I love about the fashion from this era is that it’s so adaptable to to looking casual but smart, going to work and for...

While some are still cleaning up the mess left behind by looters and rioters are we any closer to finding out why this happened in the first place? The recent bout of riots and looting in London has left a scar on the city, and it’s left us with a lot of unanswered questions too. How will we stop it from happening again? What do we do with the offenders? While these are big questions that I don’t have the answers for, perhaps the most puzzling question of all is w...

‘Buying jeans is such a personal thing’, a colleague said to me during a discussion over our love/hate relationship with the ever popular wardrobe staple. Denim and namely jeans in particular are one of the trickiest items of clothing to shop for. Fact. From cut and colour to style and size, the market for jeans is so vast it’s easy to get lost in the land of stonewash and boot-cut. No doubt we’ve all been caught out at some stage in our quest for the perfect pair. But a pair of ill-fi...

The weather outside is confusing at best and puts a damper on any plans of having an outdoor party in the park with more than a day’s notice. Don’t get me wrong - the small windows of sunshine that shine down on us in London make me happy. But the chances that I’ll be wielding a brolly, wearing black jeans and a scarf at that time are highly likely, especially if I woke up to a grey sky and foreboding rain only that morning.
