Rainbow Winters: Fashionable Technology

By Cate Sevilla

From designer gadget accessories to companies like Burberry fully embracing digital - things are getting truly hot and heavy between fashion and technology.

Taking the relationship between the fashionable and the technical to an entirely new level is Rainbow Winters, a fashion brand which is fusing the "cutting edge of science with the high-art of fashion" with a captivating result.

Created by Amy Konstanze Mercedes Rainbow Winters, Rainbow Winters has undertaken a series or projects using 'smart textiles' and ''interactive design', with each result being equally as interesting and innovative as the next.

We like to think of it as sexy science.

Water & Sun Reactive Dress

Rainbow Winters

Say hello to the Rainforest Dress (left) and the Petal Dress (right) which changes colours and is activated by light and/or water. Perfect for a British summer, eh? (Assuming you see the sun...)

Illuminated Clothing

Rainbow Winters Illuminate

Illuminated dresses that use fibre optic woven fabric, LEDs and EL Wire. Gorgeous, fascinating, and very Gaga, non?

Sound Reactive Dress

Rainbow Winters Sound

This neoprene tube dress was made with electro luminescent panels made of mirrored side panels. The dress animates and responds to volume, and Rainbow Winters say it was "inspired by sculptural light paintings". At the highest volume the dress illuminates white, blue and red light. Patriotic!
